Marketing your business
The first step in marketing your business is to identify your keyword or phrases that best describe your business and more importantly people are entering into search boxes. Yes it is great to get number one position but if no one is searching for your particular phrase it will not do you or your marketing any good at all.
I recommend using Google Keyword Selector tool, which is part of Adwords, do not worry you do not need to subscribe to Adwords. You enter a keyword phrase and the selector will come up with a series of suggestions based on global and local searches. If your business is based only in one country you can restrict search results to that particular country. What you are looking for are results with high number of searches but will little competition. draw up a short list of phrases that interest you.
Once you have your short list, go to Google and see what web sites you will be competing against. Sometimes you may find results which have nothing to do with your type of business in which case choose another keyword. also look at some of the top sites and see what other keywords they are using in case they are useful targets for you as well.
The time you spend on keyword research is time well spent and can make a big difference in your marketing results.
